ALL ABOUT BALLOTING IN UNILAG

So this is a sequel to my last post titled..... CLICK HERE TO SEE LAST POST
We all know the the term ‘ballot’ meaning competing for an event. Trust me, balloting of bedspace in unilag is one of the toughest and competitive event you’ll always encounter when due.
DSA will announce the date and time for balloting of bedspace. Note that staylites ballot first before freshers do.
Now this article is going to keep you abreast of the balloting process.

What Is Balloting

Balloting is about drawing lots for the purpose of getting a bedspace. In Unilag, it is done online on your individual student portal. It is quite a hectic and stressful process as thousands of students will be on the site at the same time and one may experience difficulties due to excessive traffic on the site. But in the end it's worth it.
Most students opt for the school hostel in order to save transport and feeding costs, security and a lot of other things.

THINGS TO NOTE ABOUT THE BALLOTING PROCESS:

  • Less than 25% of students who ballot get successful in the process. Yeah, it’s known that a lot of people will be unsuccessful. Bed space balloting is actually competitive respect to a class, the school management have prerequisites and criteria choosing a quota for a particular class. For example Chemical Engineering year one students may consist of 80 students. The management can select 10 spaces out of the 80 students available. So the competition is actually between your class colleagues

  • It takes patience, perseverance and resilience for bedspace balloting. The site will frustrate you no doubt. But a quick advice is always being resilient.

  • Strong Network Connections, Browsers and Devices increase your chances of being successful. Don’t expect someone on a 2G connection to have a better chances than a 4G network connection. Personally, I’ll prescribe a 4G connection or a strong WiFi broadband. Safari, Chrome, Firefox, UCbrowser, Operamini are also prescribed browsers to use during the process.

  • Expect Run-time and ‘Err’ messages. During the balloting process, it is by the norm you experience run time messages in mark up languages.

So here's how it works,

The school sets a particular date and time for all students to ballot. Make sure to have your phone or laptop charged and with an internet connection so you don't miss out on the process.
You'll have to log into your student portal with your matriculation number (which will be sent to your portal by the school and will be your username for the portal throughout your stay in the school) and password
  •  You must have been given a hall of residence
  •  There is a notification on your portal that states accommodation
  •  Tap on it and you'll see allocate bed space
  •  Keep trying till you're given a room number(bed space)

The struggle of getting a bed space is strenuous and you shouldn't trust people you don't know with your login details. Logging in with multiple devices could get you disqualified during the balloting process.
Hostel rooms are usually designated for a particular amount of persons there's the 4man room,6man room and 8man room which simply means each room has that exact number of occupants.
